In late 1986, not only did my Dark Angel character make his initial appearence in the 1st three issues of an
independent comic book called Dark Adventures, but I also made my debut in Dick The Bruiser's WWA courtesy
of my mentor in the wrestling biz, BoBo Brazil Jr.(Known then as Calypso Jim).
By '87 I'd done my stint on the original Bruiser Bedlam TV show, which originated from Toledo Ohio and aired in
other markets, including Detroit, Indianapolis, Ft. Wayne and Chicago. I worked regularly with some great wrestlers
and learned the biz from legendary greats like Dick The Bruiser himself, BoBo Brazil Sr, Yukon Moose Cholak,
Dr. Jerry Graham Jr., Don Kent, A Young Scott "Big Pappa Pump" Rechstiener, The Great Wojo, and Terry
Sullivan among others.
Then, because I was much more arrogant in my youth, I decided (since I was so smart) I would LEAVE the comfort of
my wrestling home and set up my own promotion.
I began the Powerslam Promotion in Mid '87, originally sanctioned by the WWA, my 1st shows even carried the
WWA "brand" in my advertising. But after a heated discussion with Bruiser in an illinois dressing room, ( I was ALSO
much BRAVER in my youth), I started my OWN TV Show, Powerslam Pro Wrestling. I booked WWA talent under
the radar, and ran my OWN shows using additional talent from other BRANDS and "greenies' who were looking for a
break.
At THIS stage I started booking and working with another group of wrestling legends, such as awesome Ox Baker,
Spike Huber, Bruiser"King Kong" Brody, Stormy Granzig, Steve "Mr. Electricity" Regal, the original Sheik
and others.
I was ALSO lucky enough to book early TV matches of future superstars like Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Even a few "Top
Rope" talents that for some reason or another never made the feds, but not because they didn't have the
talent...Trust me, some of these kids were and still are, "all that"!
Wrestling's a funny game, sometimes people stay in an area because they don't wanna leave family, others may turn
down an opportunity rather than loose their gimmick to the corporation, still others are just content where they are.
The reasons are as varied as the talent. I fall in there somewhere, so by 1994, despite several opportunities, I had
retired from the ring except for an occasional "Charity" event, and returned to my "other" love, producing comic
books.
In 1998, a good friend at a local access TV station asked me if I'd help some kid with his "Backyard Wrestling"
show.....I mentored the kid best as I could, and since I was inadvertently drawn back into the biz, I got the urge to
produce another TV show, thus Powerslam 2000 was born. I even recruited Chris Ecker, from Big Bang Comics
( See our Powerlinks to visit the Big Bang site.) to host and call the action. Chris even produced our sister show,
Ringmasters International, from our vault of footage. For the next two years, Dark Angel's Damage Incorporated
returned with The Bounty Hunters: Buck & J B Lawless, Brian "The Crippler" Costello, The Amish Assassin
and others.
The Powerslam 2000 "End Of The Millenium Tour" ran through July of 99 and was taped for TV, utilizing the mat
talents of: Dan "The Beast" Severn, The Iron Sheik, "Superstar"T.J. Powers, Cousin Bubba, "Diceman"
Ronnie Vegas, Flyin' Andy Chene, BoBo Brazil Jr., Pastor Pain, The Shadow, The Knight Watchman and
others. But before too long, due to reasons I won't get into here, the FUN left, and so did I.
I turned in the rest of the promised TV shows, and again left the biz... Again.
These days I spend my time doing occasional charity events, selling commission art on Ebay, maintaining this site,
and NOW, seeing to it that the wrestling stars of my youth are remembered...I grew up watching All Star
Championship Wrestling, hosted by Bob Caudle, and only recently found out all those FANTASTIC shows were
ERASED weekly to make room for the next weeks show...So CLASSIC matches, angles and wrestlers are lost forever!
